Services & Fees
Interested in writing a book, having your manuscript edited, or publishing a book? We offer five distinct writing/editing/publishing services:
Ghostwriting – We excel in the art of turning your ideas and/or experiences into a polished manuscript. We’ll create the manuscript, either by writing it ourselves based on your ideas or the material you’ve put together, or assisting you as you write. Don’t know how to lay out a book? That’s okay – you don’t have to do any of the writing, or work on the book’s structure, content, or anything else unless you want to do these things. You choose the way you’d like to work, and we’ll ensure that your finished product is a professionally written book with you as the sole named author.
Rewriting – Let’s say you’ve got a completed manuscript that’s full of good ideas but it’s not quite “working.” You’d like a book editor to edit the text, but simply correcting the grammar and smoothing out the language isn’t going to cut it. What you really need is a “book doctor.” More than simply a book editor, a book doctor reworks your manuscript at the deepest levels. Every single sentence is scrutinized for language, style and contribution to the overall theme. Then many (if not most) of them will be reworked or rewritten. Organizational problems, missing information, poorly-reasoned arguments, knotted language, scrambled ideas and so on will be addressed and, with your input, corrected. Your book is full of potential; let us help you make it great!
Developmental Editing – While rewriting solves your manuscript’s problems, developmental editing “earmarks” them for your correction. As developmental editors, we’ll perform some of the functions of a “book doctor,” critiquing your manuscript and looking for large problems such as a lack of organization, poorly-reasoned arguments, language problems and missing information. We’ll also ensure that your manuscript is logical and cohesive, covers all topics in the appropriate amount of detail, is not repetitive, and the grammar and style are appropriate for the intended audience.
We’ll then make the smaller, more obvious corrections, and write/rewrite small amounts of transitional material, when necessary. The larger problems (e.g. areas of missing or contradictory information) will be marked for your additions/corrections and discussed in an accompanying document. If you’re a good writer and you’d like to save money by “fixing” your manuscript yourself, this could be your best option.
Developing Your Book Idea – Have you got a great idea for a book that you’d like to write yourself but you’re not sure how to get started? We’ll teach you how to lay out a book, develop its concept, select the best writing style, target your audience, create a clear and compelling table of contents, and more.
Here’s how it works: You’ll receive up to 20 hours of telephone/Skype consultation time with Barry, a New York Times #1 bestselling author who has given numerous seminars on professional writing. During these chats, Barry will help you address the issues mentioned above and lay out the guidelines you’ll need for writing your book.
All of this information will be compiled in a 30-page document tailored specifically to your project, which will serve as the blueprint for your book. The document will include, in addition to the topics above, information on finding your focus, giving your book a “mission,” crafting your selling sentences, structuring your book, and writing a great book opener.
If you’re interested in writing a book but need a little help getting started, our Developing Your Book Idea package will give you the knowledge and confidence that can get the process rolling.
Manuscript Analysis – Let’s say you’ve already finished a manuscript, but it isn’t quite ready for publication. You’re not sure why or how to fix it, so you’re stuck. What you need is a highly-qualified, professional book editor to read your manuscript, assess its problems and give you solid advice on how to get your book back on track. We’ll critique your manuscript in a 5-page written analysis, identifying problems with focus, structure, content and style and making suggestions for improvement. Writing a book isn’t easy, and trying to edit a book – especially when it’s your own – can be even harder. Let us help you find your way!
Self-Publishing Consulting – Are you ready to self-publish your book, but don’t know how? Where to go? Which to choose among the hundreds of self-publishing firms, with their thousands of services and packages? We’ll cut through the confusion by spending 5 hours with you on the phone or on Skype, explaining how to understand and use self-publishing firms and select the one best suited for your book.
